Spring Cleaning

Updated: Apr 12, 2019

It's officially spring, and you know what that means - it's time to clean. Aside from pollen, spring cleaning might be one of the most dreaded aspects of this colorful season. But it's so important to prioritize cleaning up your work space!

Physically cleaning out the office and getting rid of the things that bring you stress or make a mess will help you focus on what's important. Decluttering and organizing your home will save you time in the day-to-day and clear out your space from distractions. Studies show a clean space makes people happier! Cleaning can also give a sense of satisfaction that will put you in a good mood. Plus, spring cleaning can turn into a treasure hunt finding the items you’ve misplaced, haven’t seen in a year, or completely forgot you had! I have had a focus in this area the past year and actually worked with a personal organizer to help me learn and get on the right track. It has given me so much peace!

This concept doesn't just apply to physical junk. Cleaning up your systems and processes so things work more smoothly is also worth your time and investment. Cleaning your computer's hardware helps it run more smoothly and work better for longer. Regular cleaning protects your investment and your data. When you wipe off the screen and empty crumbs out of your keyboard, you’re helping your equipment perform better and reducing the risk that it will stop working.

Cleaning software also helps protect your data. Antivirus software and regular program updates help ensure that viruses, malware, and remote “hackers” stay out of your system. When you maintain your files by backing them up, deleting unused programs, and performing maintenance tasks like defragmenting the hard drive, you help ensure your computer can save your files without accidentally corrupting them.

It's also important to take a look at cleaning up your personal health and wellness with making sure you take time to eat well, take breaks through the day and have good work/life balance. If you're eating the right food and keeping fit, your body will be strong and help you to cope with stress and also fight illness. Getting regular sleep is another really important way to stay healthy. Now is a good time to evaluate your health and clean that up as well! A healthy business owner and a healthy team can accomplish so much more! You can even make it F U N and create a health challenge for the office. I have coached offices that have a blast doing the “drink half your body weight in ounces of water daily challenge”!

Similarly, it is a good time reassess your investments and your expenses. Fortunately, organizing your finances isn’t as difficult as it sounds. Once you have your budget, your paperwork and your bills in order, your finances will be easier to manage and you won’t find yourself juggling payments or questioning whether you will have enough money to tide you over until next payday. Simple steps like setting up a filing system and automating payments can help keep you organized throughout the year.

I get it - cleaning isn't always fun. But it can be so rewarding to get your business, home and work space in order. If you need motivation to get your business organized, contact us. We'll be happy to help get you going in the right direction!

Wishing you a clean spring,

Krista
